KUALA LUMPUR: The government is studying a mechanism to simplify and upgrade port documentation and shipping procedures through Port Klang Net and U Customs, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

He said this would shorten the approval time from seven days to only two to four days for the stakeholders to go through their shipping process flow effectively.

“In certain developed countries, their shipping process flow only takes within two to four days for approval but in Malaysia, we need at least seven days and above.

“With the new mechanism which involves online applications for the Port Klang Net and linked to U Customs, it will shorten the waiting time for the shipping process flow and simplify the port documentation process,” he told a press conference after launching the 2nd MCA’s 10 Economic Strategic Directions (10 ESD) Conference’ here, today.

Earlier, speaking at the launch of the conference, Liow who is also the MCA President said the 10 ESD was the third part of the party’s strong approach to transformation, with the first and second parts being ‘Stronger Together’ and “Harnessing Diversity Programme’ respectively.

“It is now a significant platform for the party to fulfil its promise to understand the key economic issues facing the country.

“It is also to empower our people in creating new business, new economic development and employment opportunities in areas where we are competent and competitive,” he said. — Bernama
